Crossover Mirror Installation
The crossover mirror covers the one blind zone a driver cannot lean to see around: the space directly in front of a conventional cab, where a person shorter than the hood line disappears completely.
Hood mount or fender mount
Which one depends on the cab. A conventional with a long sloped hood usually takes a hood mount, set far enough forward that the mirror sees the ground ahead of the bumper rather than the hood itself. A flatter or shorter hood often does better on a fender mount.
Cab-over and low-cab-forward vehicles are a different case. The driver already sits ahead of the front axle with a much shorter forward blind zone, so the mounting position — and sometimes whether a crossover mirror is the right answer at all — is worth a conversation before you book. We would rather have it than fit a mirror that adds nothing.
Mounting into a hood is not reversible
A hood-mounted crossover is through-bolted into a fibreglass or composite hood. That is a permanent penetration, so we get the position right before drilling: mirror held in place, driver in the seat, sight line checked against a marker on the ground in front of the bumper.
Every penetration is sealed. On a tilt hood we check clearance through the full tilt travel before finalising, because a mirror that fouls the tilt is a mirror that gets torn off the first time someone opens the hood in a hurry.
What the install includes
The mirror head, the mount sized for your hood or fender, through-bolted fitment with sealed penetrations, aiming with the driver seated, tilt-clearance check where applicable, and the installation record.
Usually an hour or two. No lift needed.
Common questions
Do I need a crossover mirror on a cab-over?
Often it adds much less than it does on a conventional, because the driver already sits ahead of the front axle. Talk to us about the specific vehicle before booking — we will tell you if it is not worth fitting.
Will drilling the hood cause problems later?
Not if it is sealed properly, which is part of the job. Composite hoods wick water through an unsealed hole, so every penetration gets sealed at fitment rather than left to the weather.
Can the mirror stay on when the hood tilts?
Yes — we check clearance through the full tilt travel before we finalise the position, so the hood opens normally with the mirror fitted.
