Convex Mirror Installation
The cheapest of the four devices to fit and the easiest to get wrong, because a convex mirror that is mounted correctly but aimed badly passes a glance and fails the driver.
Bracket sizing is per cab, not per truck
Convex mirrors hang off the existing mirror arm or the door skin, and the bracket that suits a set-back-axle highway tractor is not the one that suits a low-cab-forward box truck. We size the bracket to the cab so the convex head sits outboard enough to see past the trailer without adding width the driver has to think about in a yard.
Where a cab already carries a factory convex head, we check it before quoting a replacement. Sometimes the existing mirror is fine and only the aim is wrong, which is a much smaller job.
Aiming is the part that matters
A convex mirror is aimed with the driver in the seat, not on an empty cab. Seat height and mirror aim are coupled, so a mirror set for a six-foot driver is wrong for a five-foot-four driver and vice versa.
If the vehicle is driven by more than one person — and most fleet vehicles are — we aim for the shortest regular driver and show whoever collects the truck how to check the setting. A mirror the driver adjusts themselves after the first shift is a mirror that works.
Fitted as a pair
Sold and installed as a pair, because the blind zone runs down both sides. Includes both heads, both brackets, fitment to your cab, and aiming with the driver seated.
Typically an hour or two on the vehicle, and it does not need a lift. This is the one device we can usually fit while other work is going on.
Common questions
Can you fit convex mirrors to a cab that already has them?
We will check what is there first. If the existing heads are sound and the fitment is right, you may only need them re-aimed, which we would rather tell you than sell you a pair you do not need.
Will the mirrors make the vehicle wider?
Marginally, and we size the bracket to keep it that way. The aim is to see past the trailer without adding width that catches on a tight dock or a yard gate.
Do convex mirrors need re-aiming later?
After a knock, yes, and after a driver change if the new driver is a very different height. It takes minutes and we will show you how rather than making it a shop visit.
